As expected it worked !!!

I downloaded it and got ready for upgrade from Quickr 8.0.0.2 HF7 on Domino 7.0.2

Here's what I've done:

  1. Download  Domino 8.0.1 for windows
  2. Download Quickr 8.1 for windows
  3. Install 8.0.1 upgrade to your Domino 7.2/3 server
  4. Disable the http task in notes.ini (to allow update without a crash due to nquickplace.dll)
  5. Start domino server, update names.nsf templates, allow creation/upgrade of the domino server
  6. Stop domino server
  7. Install quickr 8.1 on top
  8. Re-enable http task in notes.ini
  9. Start the domino server.

Now it's time to update quickr services / places
  1. "load qptool upgrade -server" (this upgrade server design and config)
  2. "load qptool upgrade -a" (this upgrades all your servers-placetypes)
  3. "load qptool unregister -a" (unregister from the place catalog)
  4. "load qptool register -a" (re-register your places)

At this point you're done... enjoy your new quickr 8.1

Important Notes
  • Snapps qTemplates get broken after installing 8.1. If you use those please wait for snapps to release new stuff.
  • New connectors are in, I've already found some bug but will discuss about those later.
  • Your domino server is now 8.0.1, please run note compression and save some space.

I know the following is an issue in R7: If you don't use the "-install" option in step 4, you will not have mail-in database documents for your places in the Domino Directory. Step 3 removes mail-in documents, however step 4 doesn't put them back in. Step 4 should therefore be:

4. "load qptool register -a -install"

OR:

3. "load qptool unregister -a -placecatalog"

4. "load qptool register -a -placecatalog"

2) Quickr 8.1 - after the upgrade
Daniele Vistalli 04/03/2008 8:17:38

Hello Gennady.

I've no experience about Quickr 8.1 with a partitioned server but I've an idea. Maybe you're not missing anything. The installation process for quickr 8.1 might be missing to check for partitions.

Let's try fooling it.

1- Copy for a moment your notes.ini from the quickr partition to c:\lotus\domino

2- Start the upgrade and point the installation to c:\lotus\domino

3- It should detect now the notesdata directory and proceed.

At end of the process compare the notes.ini in c:\lotus\domino with the old one from the quickr partition. Eventually (I think you'll need to) copy the modified notes.ini to the partition directory.

Can you try this ?

3) 8.1 upgrade refuses to install
Gennady Kleyner 04/02/2008 22:07:25

I've tried to do the same but can't get through step 7. My environment is Windows 2003 server, and I've upgraded my Domino to 8.0.1 which is 3 Domino partitions, one of which has Quickr 8.0.0.2 installed.

Everytime I run the install for Quickr 8.1 it refuses to get beyond the path prompting. When it defaults to "D:\Lotus\Domino" and I accept that it tells me that the server needs to be setup first. When I point it to the specific partition (i.e. "D:\Lotus\Domino\Parition2") it tells me that the directory already exists.

I can't get beyond that. What am I missing?

The point is we started playing with it before IBM made it completely available ... we're to quick with IBM stuff.

5) Thanks!!

Just found your blog yesterday per Stuart. I'm upgrading a box now - glad to see that you have provided some documentation that IBM hasn't.... ;)

6) Upgrading J2EE

Looks great! Upgrading the J2EE version however looks somewhat more complicated...

7) Thanks for the update

We are in the process of upgrading to Domino 8.0.1 and will be upgrading the Quickr server as well. I look forward to hearing about any "gothchas" you have experienced especially with the connectors.
